our history

Beginning in September 1952 as "Cottage Prayer Meetings," the community of Nixa, at that time, had a population of 570. Renting a house on the corner of Mt. Vernon and Market Streets for $30 a month, the church grew to an attendance  of 63.

Two lots were purchased for $950 at the corner of Mt. Vernon and Main with ground breaking for a 32'x48x new building on October 17, 1954. Rev. J. Dan Woodall was pastor until September 30, 1956. In 1963 Wilbur Blansit became pastor of Nixa Assembly of God. In 1978 church growth made it necessary to construct a larger 100' x 127' building with a seating capacity of 500.

In 1993, Wilbur Blansit retired with a passing of the mantle service to his son, Don Blansit, who was then the co-pastor.  The church continued to grow and a new sanctuary was built in October 2005 with a seating capacity of more than 800, along with a name change to Nixa First Assembly.

In June 2013, the church celebrated twenty years of service with Senior Pastors, Don and Marquita Blansit.
After serving more than 24 years as Senior Pastors of Nixa First Assembly, the Blansits announced their retirement. They were honored in a special service September 17, 2017 with the 800+ seat sanctuary filled to capacity with friends, family, missionaries, and many former staff members. Their years of ministry reached well beyond the walls of Nixa First Assembly, impacting the Nixa Community, Nixa School Teachers and Board, the Ministerial Alliance and Pastors of Nixa Area Churches that prayed together weekly. The Blansits are greatly loved and will be greatly missed by Nixa First Assembly.

To assist the congregation in moving forward as they sought a new Pastor, the Reverend Robert Strand served as Interim Pastor. Pastor Strand's 40+ years of Pastoral and Interim ministry provided leadership and direction as the congregation prayed & sought God's perfect will for the next Pastor of Nixa First Assembly.

God has been faithful and blessed this congregation with over fifty years of ministry from the Blansit Family. He was faithful to provide Interim Pastoral leadership through Pastor Bob and Donna Strand. And as this congregation joined together in united prayer, God continued His faithfulness and brought new Pastors Chris and Amy Foster and Family to lead the Nixa First Assembly congregation into the future.

God IS Faithful!!
